Manchester [UK], August 31 : Manchester United has announced the acquisition of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain on a contract running until June 2029, with the possibility of an additional year.
The club confirmed the signing of the Uruguayan midfielder on August 31, stating, "Manchester United is delighted to announce that Manuel Ugarte has joined us, pending registration. The Uruguayan international has signed a contract through June 2029, with an option for a one-year extension."
Sky Sports revealed that Manchester United paid an initial fee of £42 million, which could increase to £50.7 million with performance-related add-ons.
Ugarte was Manchester United's top target for the midfield. His addition will help address the gap left by Scott McTominay, who has moved to Serie A side Napoli.
The 23-year-old midfielder won the league and cup double with PSG last season and played every match in the Copa America for Uruguay, where he was named to the tournament's team of the tournament. Ugarte has 22 international caps.
Upon joining Manchester United, Ugarte expressed his excitement, saying, "Joining a club of this magnitude is an incredible feeling. The project discussed with me is very exciting; Manchester United is an ambitious club, and I am an ambitious player."
